Mangaluru: College bus driver drowns in turbulent seas at Someshwara beach

Mangaluru, Dec 11: A person met a watery grave when he entered the sea to have a bath at the Someshwara beach on Sunday, December 11 in the morning due to the high and turbulent tides arising due to the Cyclone Mandous.

The Arabian Sea has been turbulent due to the copious rainfall that the region has been receiving since Saturday night due to the cyclone. Locals feel that the person who died after venturing into the sea was due to the high and turbulent tide that is being experienced as a result of the cyclone.

The deceased is identified as Prashanth Bekal (47), a resident of Ambika Road. He was accompanied to the beach by son Chirayu Bekal, brother Varadaraj Bekal’s son Vandan Bekal and friend Mani when this incident occurred. The brothers were used to taking their sons and families every Sunday to the beach. Chirayu, son of the deceased Prashanth is currently pursuing engineering course and is a swimmer. Despite his best effort to lift and rescue his father by using a rope after wading through the waters with the help of people he could not help see his father Prashanth die right in front of his eyes.

Prashanth was working as a bus driver in the SDM Group of educational institution and had previously worked with the KMC group.

Ullal police have registered a case.

The Indian Meteorological Department had issued an alert till December 12 arising due to the Cyclone Mandous accompanied by cold winds.

    Very sad he drawned in See.May his soul rest in peace.My advice is dont get into a wild see when one doesnt know swimming.You can remain at the shore,but go away when see is wild.Heartfelt sympathy to the family.
