Doha (Qatar), Dec 18: Aloysius D’Souza was unanimously elected as the new president of Konkani Speaking Community (KSC) of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Doha Qatar for the term 2022 to 2025.
Our Lady of Rosary Church assistant parish priest and spiritual director of Konkani Speaking Community Fr Nelson Lobo OFM Cap announced the names of president, vice-president & other executive committee members after the feast mass celebration of St Francis Xavier on December 3.
Rosario D’Cunha was elected vice-president & treasurer, Ms Jovita Pereira, general secretary and Ms Meena Mascarenhas as cultural secretary in the newly formed KSC Managing Committee.
Aloysius D’Souza hails from native Kanajar parish and is currently settled in Udupi, India and renders his service as an active member in parish Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC).
Aloysius D’Souza is popular among community members and is well known for his selfless community service in Doha for the last 12 years. He is also currently holding the position of president in Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) affiliated Mangalore Cultural Organization (MCA) in Doha Qatar and also an active member in other Karnataka-based organisations in Qatar such as Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), Tulukooota, Qatar & Karnataka Sangha, Qatar.
Fr Nelson Lobo thanked the outgoing president Succour Vas and his team for their selfless service towards the church.
Konkani Speaking Community is an active group that belongs to the Konkani Speaking Roman Catholic people from Konkan zone of India, Maharashtra, Goa, Karwar and Mangaluru.
KSC team organises many religious & cultural events for the Konkani speaking community and also render many selfless services towards needy parishioners in Doha Qatar. On a separate note the newly formed KSC
Committee along with KSC Spiritual Director Fr Nelson have planned several community events to bring all Konkani speaking people under one umbrella, such as family picnic, celebrate feasts of St Joseph Vaz, St Padre Pio, Monti Fest (Mother Mary Nativity Feast) & St. Francis Xavier in addition to Christmas and Easter Celebrations.
They have also expressed their desire to form Konkani Charismatic prayer group and conduct general & intercessory prayer meetings once every month to pray for the intentions of people in Qatar and all over the world.
Goemcho Saib, Saint Francis Xavier feast has been celebrated by Konkani speaking Goans and Mangalureans together here in Qatar on December 3, Saturday on a grand scale.
The mesmerizing choir with favourite selection of hymns was conducted by New Shephard Choir Qatar.
As a preparation to the feast, nine-day novena was held and Fr Nelson Lobo preached on various themes which was very much appreciated by the community. On December 3, as a conclusion to 9-day novena, a holy mass was celebrated followed by a procession with the statue of St Francis Xavier and its devotees around the church compound.
The feast celebration was concluded with games and sumptuous dinner at the church compound.
