Mangaluru: Allegation of sexual harassment – Accused acquitted

Mangaluru, Dec 19: The district court acquitted accused who was alleged to have sexually harassed a girl on the pretext of getting married.

According to the complaint filed by the victim girl, it was alleged that accused Tharanath, resident of Konaje, used to call her repeatedly saying that he loves her. On May 3, 2018, during Belma Bandi jathra utsav, Tharanath met victim girl and too her on his scooter to a nearby by hill on the pretext of having some conversation and sexually harassed her.

Police filed a chargesheet in court based on the complaint filed by the victim.

Justice Srikant Raj of sixth additional district and sessions court, who conducted the inquiry, pronounced that the prosecution had failed to prove the accusation on Tharanath and acquitted him.

S P Chengappa, Rahiyana and Kishore D’Silva argued for the accused.
