Mangaluru, Dec 23: The decennial annual day celebration of St Aloysius Gonzaga School was held on December 19-20, on the school premises. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, provincial of Karnataka Jesuit Province was the chief guest of the function.
Speaking on the occasion he said that Jesuit Education is always for transformation and the school stands for 21st-century skills through various teaching-learning activities. He spoke on adolescent problems and gave a call to parents to help their ward discover their potential by giving them the roots of responsibility and wings of freedom.
Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions presided over the function and said that education is for hope and peace. He added that parents and teachers should work collaboratively to fill in hope in our students to bring transformation. The guest of honour Grace Noronha, founder principal of St Aloysius Gonzaga School shared her fond memories of being the founder principal of the school and appreciated the motto, vision and mission of the school.
Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, guest of honour, former rector and initiator of the new school building opined that education is much more than earning certificates; we need to prepare youngsters to be creative in this ambiguous world to face the 21st century. On December 19 during the annual day of KG to Class V, the chief guest Fr Joseph Rodrigues SJ, founder rector of the school, outlined the characteristics of Jesuit Education. He emphasised on holistic formation for integral development.
The principal Fr Melwyn Anil Lobo SJ presented the annual report which covered the bird's eye view of the activities of the school. The journey of a decade of the school was presented through a video featuring the inception, growth and saga of 10 years. The management honoured the Rectors, managers, founder principal, who rendered their flawless service to the growth of the school. Teachers and support staff who worked right from the inception of the school were honoured by the dignitaries. Meritorious students were awarded for excellence in academics.
On the December 19 Aparna Suresh welcomed the gathering and Gloria Misquith proposed the vote of thanks. On the December 20 Laurel D Souza welcomed the gathering and Deepthi Sahana Karkada proposed the vote of thanks. Carlton Nash Rodrigues of class XC and Aamna Jameel Saroash of class XB compered the programme.
Laurel D Souza, vice-principal and convener of the programme, Deepthi Sahana Karkada, convener, PTA vice-president Abhilash Dominic, head boy of the school Aaren D Souza, head girl Hannan Fathima Habeeb were the other dignitaries on the dais. The formal function was followed by a cultural extravaganza on the theme, ‘Education Through Transformation - Journey of a Decade’. The event ended with the school anthem.
