Mangalore: Imperial Cup-2011 Cricket Tournament Begins

Mangalore, May 25: Team Imperialz to mark the completion of their first year hosted Imperial Cup - 2011, an inter-parish under-20 cricket tournament at St Aloysius centenary grounds here on Tuesday May 24.

As many as 25 teams participated in the tournament. The tournament was organized for the purpose of getting together different parishes under a single roof and to provide a platform for young talents.

The tournament was inaugurated by Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal, St Aloysius College and Nagaraj Shetty, president of Karavali Pradhikara Nigama, by lighting the lamp. Both the guests urged the youngsters to play with a sporting spirit through out the tourney. Savil Mascarenhas and Anil Lobo were present on the dias. Delan Lobo compered the inaugural function.

The tournament kicked off with a match between Angelore A and Cascia, with Angelore A emerging winners. Twelve matches were held during the day, with Bendoor, Angelore A, Kulshekar, Nirmarga, Vamanjoor A, Vamanjoor B, Kuloor and Bondel qualifying for the next round. The major upset of the day was Bendoor defeating Derebail in the first round. Kulshekar scored the highest, making 118 in 5 overs.

Marvin, Darel and Carol were the commentators.

Twelve matches will be held on the second day.
