New Delhi, May 27 (IANS): Fans of Bollywood movies will now be able to enjoy them at home in 10 African countries, thanks to Hindi channel UTV Movies set to be launched there.
The countries -- Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, Zambia and Malawi -- belong to the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) region.
UTV has tied up with distribution company Tristar Media Marketing for launching the channel on cable.
"We are pleased to announce the expansion of our footprint into the African region, which boasts of a sizeable ethnic community. We are positive of living up to our commitment of providing quality entertainment products to our viewers across the world," M.K. Anand, CEO, Broadcasting - UTV, said in a statement.
With this, UTV's broadcast footprint now encompasses the US, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
"UTV has a track record of bringing great entertainment to its audiences and we are delighted to add UTV Movies to our offering for the south Asian community in eastern and southern Africa," said Nikhil Rajyaguru, director - Tristar Media Marketing.
