Kasargod: Prostitution Racket in Gulf - Absconding Accused Nabbed

Kasargod, May 27: C A Ahmed (42), a resident of Chalakkara in Alampady in the district, who has been accused of playing an important role in illegally trafficking over 300 girls from the state to the Gulf region after enticing them with lucrative job offers there, has been arrested. Ahmed has been accused of selling these girls to a brothel functioning at Sharjah.

He was arrrested by a police team headed by circle inspector, V V Benny. He was later handed over to an investigating team led by inspector general of police, K Padmakumar. He was taken to Pathanamtitta relating to the case. Reportedly, Ahmed is involved with hotel business in Udupi.

The racket had been unearthed, after a woman from Kulashekharapuram in Pathanamtitta district, who somehow escaped from the clutches of the racket, complained to the court about the modus operandi of the gang in 2007. The policemen, who followed the thread of evidence, found that over 300 girls had been shipped to the Gulf by this racket.

By the time the court ordered the police to take up thorough investigation and the police got some leads, prime accused in the case, Sauda Biwi, and Ahmed from Kasargod Alampady, had absconded. During investigation, the policemen recorded evidence of 22 women who were caught in the web woven by the duo. During the raid on the house of Sauda Biwi in Pathanamtitta, the policemen recovered incriminating evidences including various passports and travel documents. Biwi's son, Shammy, who reportedly prepared documents needed to send the girls to the Gulf, has been arrested. He is under judicial custody now.

On the basis of information gathered from Shammy that Ahmed, who had fled to Gulf to escape from the polcie, had come back to Kasargod, the policemen caught hold of Ahmed.
