Hubballi, Dec 30: AICC general secretary and in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala and KPCC president DK Shivakumar, who spoke to media persons at the Hubballi airport on Friday, attacked the Narendra Modi and Basavaraj Bommai regimes for failing all sections of society, especially farmers, and cheating them by promising to double farm income if they come to power.

"Has any farmer seen doubling of his income in the last 8 years in the country under Modi rule?’ they asked and said the plight of farmers was even more pitiable in Karnataka under the BJP rule.

The Congress leaders said:"There is no double engine government but one that is of triple engine in Karnataka, Goa and India. But BJP has not solved the problems of people anywhere.’’

The Congress leaders said the approval of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Kalasa-Banduri Nala project is merely a gimmick. The DPR has received conditional approval by the Central Water Commission and there is no role for Modi government in that. "If BJP is really keen on implementing the Mahadayi or Kalasa Banduri project, let them go ahead first. Let them show to the people that Karnataka’s 27 out of 28 Lok Sabha seats against one in Goa is more important to BJP,’’ they said.

"The DPR approval is merely a chocolate given ahead of the assembly polls to the State. People will believe them if the project really gets off the ground. The issue is pending before Supreme Court and there is no clarity or finality as to what will happen on the petitions by Goa and Maharashtra in the apex court. BJP should not fool people,’’ they said.

On the Bommai government’s decision to provide 2C and 2D reservation quota benefits to Panchamasali Lingayats and Vokkaligas out of the 10% for economically weaker sections, Shivakumar said none of the communities had demanded 2C and 2D reservation quota and declared that the party is against depriving the benefits of 2A and Scheduled Tribes.

The government can move ahead only when the 50% reservation quota limit can be increased and three months before the assembly polls, the BJP wants to fool the Lingayats and Vokkaligas by declaring that the two new categories will be carved out of the 10% EWS quota.

The government says the reservation of different categories will be announced in 3 months, he says and pointed out that BJP will be wiped out in 3 months. "What are they going to do in 3 months?,’’ he asked.
