Mangaluru, Dec 31: "In India, no one can deny the contribution of the Christian community in the field of education, health and social service. The Christian missionaries were the pioneers of a transformed modern India. The whole world accepts this truth and hails the community for its selfless service towards the society. In Mangaluru, MCC Bank under the current management is doing a great job in the financial sector. The 110-year-old bank has many success stories under the leadership of Anil Lobo Fermai, the current chairman. The bank is an asset for the Mangalurean community,” said Ronal Colaco, NRI businessman and philanthropist.

He was speaking after the inauguration of the NRI meet organized by MCC Bank Ltd held on Friday, December 30 at The Ocean Pearl hotel here.

He further said, "The steady growth of MCC Bank from 40% to 80% itself tells the progress of the bank and the faith of its depositors and customers which they have on the bank. Somewhere, the personal interests of a few, made the bank’s growth slowdown. But a chairman like Anil Fermai and the directorial board which are working with him are doing a great job to make the bank strong in its service area and the financial field overall. Without a doubt, I can say that the bank will reach more heights in the upcoming days. My only request is when issues crop up, instead of simply criticizing, those problems should be discussed with the management. Constructive suggestions for the betterment of the organisation will always help. This can bring more decency to critics as well as the bank."

He also requested the NRIs to invest a part of their earnings in the MCC Bank for a better future for themselves as well as the society. He announced to increase his share from 1 lac to 10 lac with immediate effect.

Walter Nandalike, founder, Daijiworld media group said, “Criticism from others always leads to success. If no one criticizes an individual or institution, it means that the individual or institution is not active. I can say, MCC Bank under the leadership of Anil Lobo and current directors are doing an impressive job in the banking sector. The customer-friendly staff and modern technology used in every branch by the bank has made it easy for the customers and investors for their financial needs. I wish MCC Bank the best in its future endeavours too.”

Fr Rocky D Cunha, OFM, president, Konkani Natak Sabha hailed the progress of the MCC Bank and collective efforts of the management towards the development of the bank. He also acknowledged the bank management for their social service and recognition of achievers in the community.

CA Rudolph Rodrigues, while delivering a talk on taxation for NRIs, explained various provisions of income tax/capital gains tax applicable to NRIs, resident but not ordinarily residents (RNORs) and resident Indians. He also explained the provisions under IT Act and FEMA. He clarified the doubts raised by NRIs during the interactive session. CA Rudolph also spoke about the progress made by MCC Bank for the last 4 years and appreciated the professionalism prevailing in the bank.

Directors Marcel D’Souza, David D’Souza, Herold Monteiro, Andrew D’Souza, Roshan D’Souza, Irene Rebello, Dr Freeda D’Souza, Elroy Kiran Crasto, C G Pinto, Sushanth Saldanha, Sharmila Menezes, Alwyn P Monteiro, Felix D’Cruz, deputy general manager Raj Menezes, and senior manager (NRI) Deril Lasrado were also present.
