Mumbai: Foreigner Attacked and Rs 42,000 Looted from Him


Mumbai, May 28 (PTI) A Nigerian-origin-South African national was attacked and looted Rs 42,000 by a motorcycle- borne robber at Dongri in south Mumbai, police said today.

The victim identified as Jonathan, who claims to be a Nigerian, but has a South Africa's passport, was walking on Keshav Road in Dongri area at around 11.30 pm last night when he was attacked, said Deputy Police Commissioner Vijay Jadhav.

"Jonathan was attacked with a sharp object, after which, he sustained injuries. The attacker escaped with the bag consisting Rs 42,000," he added.

The biker allegedly hit the victim with a sharp object on his back, after which, he grabbed the bag containing cash and the passport before escaping. The victim called his Nigerian friend, who took him to the hospital.

Police detained a habitual offender Zubeir, who was suspected to have had attacked the foreign national in the past.
