Jilted lover stabs engineering student to death in Bengaluru college

Bengaluru, Jan 2 (IANS): In a shocking incident, a jilted lover stabbed an engineering student to death in the college premises on Monday for rejecting his romantic proposal, police said.

The incident occurred at the Presidency University College in Itgalur near Rajankunte.

The deceased was identified as Layasmitha, 19, in the first year of Btech. Accused Pavan Kalyan, 21, a BCA student in the Nrupatunga University, also stabbed himself after the crime. He had been rushed to the hospital, where his condition is said to be serious.

Layasmitha had flatly refused Pawan Kalyan's proposal, and the enraged youth barged into the college campus and attacked her with a knife, and then, turned the knife on himself, police said.

Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru Rural, Mallikarjuna Baladandi said that after getting entry into the college, the youth had gone to the classroom and called out the victim.

"Both were talking in the corridor for about 15 minutes.

"Suddenly, accused Pavan Kalyan took out a knife from his bag and started stabbing her. The girl had been stabbed in the chest, abdomen, neck, and hand.

"The girl was declared dead, while the boy had been shifted to the hospital," he said.

Police sources stated that the boy and girl hailed from the same village - Kachipura village near Mulbagal town in Kolar district.

Eye witnesses have told police that Pavan Kalyan, after stabbing Layasmitha, started to stab himself with a knife multiple times. The development has shocked the students and Presidency University has been slammed for slack security.

Rajanukunte police rushed to the spot and launched investigations.

Look at the comments and irony here. The religion of the students are dragged into this and maligned. Its also tied up to the BJP. On the contrary, when grazing cows are raped, goats are seduced, young boys molested, minor raped, teenager smuggling in her private parts, Pressure cooker wala episode, Terror recruitment, all these despite having a common factor, Its cried as found and then 'Crime has not religion ' . Somewhere between TErrorism has NO religion and Terror having a common factor we grew up.

Your statement very well reflects your mindset; you look for religion behind every crime and you rejoice when the accused are from a particular community. There are list of heinous crime committed by the so called "SANSKARI" community which you always ignore to read/process/remember. If you research a bit you will find number of cases were the SANKARIs are involved in the crimes that you have highlighted, however, you have ignored to read it.

@Pacific Heights, I think you are born just today. When a community which has monopoly in crimes blames on other community; it is surely going to backfire on themselves. Can you claim that no sanskaris are involved in the above crimes listed by you?. In fact, Sanskaris have the monopoly and use others as foot soldiers. But the reality is that they blame others whilst both are equally responsible for the crime. For example, sanskaris always blame on one particular community for marrying multiple wives and having lot of children. But NFSH survey says 1.3 % of one community is still practicing polygamy even though the second marriage in invalid for them and second woman is not the legal wife. If you blame on the individuals instead of their community of the criminals; then I am with you; otherwise you are simply making a false claim of superiority.

@Pacific Heights, Why anyone should not blame BJp?. BJp MLA from Gujarat calls gang rapists are Sanskaris; and BJp gave him ticket to contest elections; and he got re- elected as an MLA. What does it mean?. Isn't it a promotion of a heinous crime?. But for Andh Bhakths everything is lawful as far as it is from their people or party.

What message the youngsters and millennials are getting When killer of Mahatma Gandhi is portrayed as a Deshbhakth, When Savarkar who begged for apology from British rulers is portrayed as superior to Bhagath Singh (who was hanged by same British rulers for his loyalty to our country); When a Terrorism accused is blessed with a position of Member of Parliament (MP); When gang rapists are praised as sanskaris by an MLA; When an MP asks people to keep stock of weapons (hathyar) and keep the knives sharp?. Obviously, these youngster will believe that: Either it is "MY WAY" or else "HIGH WAY"; as they have complete lost their sense of judging about what is right and what is not right by getting inspired by the above unethical affairs/ injustice/oppression taking place in the current society.

This is very sad but a a part of society from time immemorial.... One way love is usually timid and limited to oneself.... Few instances will be seen from time to time where we are forced to digest such news... RIP to the young soul... May God give strength to her parents and kin....

It's high time we educate our young girls and boys that there is much more to life than falling in love while in college. There is no doubt that falling in love in a beautiful experience but having an obsession with the person is dangerous. A relationship works out only when both mutually fall in love and express the same feelings. Our younger generation should be encouraged to fall in love as well as be strong enough to accept a rejection and move on. The pain of rejection hurts but the phase passes on and there is always a brighter side.

@Eva, The comment was more about media bias/ unethical practice by media; than about blaming any community. Didn't you see the brutal Shradhha murder case by a Muslim criminal was portrayed as a case of Love Jihad by the media and ran for months whilst there were similar numerous incidents those took place at the same time, but went undiscussed by the unethical media. In summary, highlighting the media bias is not the case of bias. It is our duty is bring forward the bias of the media.
