Mangaluru: Death toll of cattle affected by lumpy skin disease crosses 23,000 in state

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SS)

Mangaluru, Jan 3:The death toll of cattle affected by lumpy skin disease has crossed 23,000 in the state after 286 deaths of LSD cattle were reported on a single day during the last year end .

As per the 20th cattle census of 2018-19, out of a total of 11,45,3564 LSD cattle, 17,124 villages have been affected by the lumpy skin disease. A total of 2,62,975 LSD cattle had died due to the disease and 1,82,132 of them had recovered while 57,462 of them were undergoing treatment.

The healthy cattle get infected from house flies and mosquitoes and it has been difficult to control the spread of the infection. The infected cattle experience fever with boils, pimples and lumps are seen in their bodies. Cattle which get wounded take a long time to recover and the infection spreads to various organs affecting the body and also reducing the milk output.

The infection can be cured with immunity boosters and just like Covid-19 infection the virus gets mutated and there is no vaccine against lumpy skin infection. Calves are administered vaccines that are given to goats and sheep which give the cattle cross immunity.

Even after administering the vaccines, the infection is present but the intensity is lower. There is a ban on inter-district transport of cattle but mosquitoes which draw blood from the cattle are the infectors. Cattle need to be treated as soon as symptoms are reported. Control of mosquitoes and administering of vaccines are some of the precautionary steps taken to control the disease from spreading, according to Dakshina Kannada deputy director of Animal Husbandry department Dr Arun Kumar Shetty N.

Incidences of lumpy skin disease are being reported in the coastal district of Uttara Kannada, North India and now in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. In 26 days, 2,964 cases have been reported from 273 villages and 54 cattle have died.

In Udupi district, As many as 2410 cases have been reported and 10 of them have died while 2,880 of them are undergoing treatment.

In Karnataka, a total of 88,68,469 cattle have been administered the vaccine making up 77% of the number. 16,18,556 doses of vaccines are available. There is a demand for 50,000 doses and 1 lac doses of vaccines from Shivamogga and Kalaburgi districts respectively. Another 1.5 lac doses of vaccine are in demand. In other districts, vaccines are available in adequate quantities.

Time to check their feed for toxins from pesticides or herbicides used by farmers. Germ Theory always doesn't give proper answers or solutions. Here Terrain Theory needs to be applied. Another point to be investigated is, whether they were vaccinated against any viral diseases recently, then only we can arrive at right treatment which is preventing the causative factors.

Collect some more cows and keep them so intact .This shows here infections how fast it increases.Should have treated earlier for infection with disinfection ,not allowing to collect their extrement. One knows how flies collect in a shed. Now using vaccine also will not help.In warm weather it spreads fast.

Beef importing countries to look into it. Its better let other countries ban import of beef and beef products from India. Indians please stop consuming beef. This is now dangerous. Let the government take swift action against beef consumption and its exports.

For the time being stop drinking milk and avoid giving milk to kids. No media will broadcast this issue. They need business they don't bothered about citizens health. Stop drinking milk, tea or any milk products. Its going to very serious health concerns. There after any issue hospital will start squeezing your blood.
