Alibag, May 28 (PTI) 12 people were killed and eight others critically injured when a container truck rammed into a stationary bus near Khopoli in Raigad district, police said today.
The incident took place last night when a state transport bus, heading towards Mumbai from Aale Phata of Pune, broke down last night at Sheel Phata near Khopoli, they said.
Later, the driver of the ill-fated bus asked the passengers to push it when a speeding container smashed into it from the rear crushing the passengers, police said.
So far, only three victims could be identified as Bhushan More (20), from Sheel Phata, Suresh Tajane (45) from Kharghar, Navi Mumbai and Sadhana Chakane (30), conductor of the bus.
