Carrick faces sack as Man Utd slump continues

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 26: Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick is reportedly facing the prospect of being sacked following a disappointing run of results this season, with the club’s management considering possible replacements.

United’s recent 0-3 home defeat to Bournemouth has intensified the pressure on Carrick, leaving the Red Devils just two points above the relegation zone. The loss also extended their winless run to eight matches, further raising questions about the manager’s future.

According to multiple reports in the English media, United’s hierarchy is weighing up options to replace Carrick as the club struggles to regain form.

Following the defeat to Bournemouth, Carrick revealed that he had briefly spoken to the club’s hierarchy but was uncertain about his future.

“Just briefly, like always after a game, but nothing out of the ordinary,” he said. “I will see what happens. I totally understand the situation.”

He added that he was not expecting any particular decision and would continue working as usual.

“I love this place. I’ll always do what I feel is going to be the best for the football club, whatever decision is made on anything, really,” Carrick said.

Carrick had dropped Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes for the Bournemouth match after the player reportedly criticised the manager’s tactics following United’s 1-4 Champions League defeat to Como.

Defender Lisandro Martinez had also criticised the club’s hierarchy after United’s 0-2 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid before apologising for his remarks.

Carrick was initially appointed interim manager after Ruben Amorim was dismissed at the beginning of the year. Following an encouraging spell in charge, during which United finished third in the Premier League behind champions Arsenal and Manchester City, he was handed the full-time role.

However, United have since endured a difficult campaign, slipping into the bottom half of the Premier League table. The club has managed just one win in eight matches, alongside three defeats, while sitting 20th in the Champions League standings after recording one win and two losses in three matches.

With pressure mounting, United are reportedly exploring several alternatives. According to Independent.co.uk, the names under consideration include former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, Brighton and Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler, former Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery and former Napoli manager Antonio Conte.

The coming days could prove crucial in determining Carrick’s future as United look to arrest their decline and revive their campaign.
