Mangaluru, Jan 9: Cold weather is prevailing in coastal districts and the minimum temperature is falling day by day. With the change in weather, fear of contagious diseases is also on the rise.

Dew along with cold breeze is blowing in early mornings and late evenings. Fever, cough, cold and throat pain are seen. Patients suffering from allergy and asthma need to be more vigilant. During winter, the growth of bacteria and virus will increase and immunity will be affected.

Lifestyle needs to be changed in order to keep oneself healthy. It is better to stay away from cold food including ice creams. In addition, avoiding oily and deep fried foods is advisable.

The number of people getting infected with H1N1 and Malaria is reduced. If viral fever is noticed in children they should not be sent to school. Those who have fever, should make use of hand kerchief and take precaution that the same does not spread to others.

Consumption of outside food should be reduced. Hands and feet should be washed thoroughly. Keep the body warm by wearing woollen clothing. It is better to wear face mask while going out. Drinking boiled and cooled water and hot food is advised. Those who are suffering from arthritis should see that their body is kept warm. Exercise and consuming food that will increase immunity is advised to stay healthy.
