Mangaluru, Jan 11: A delegation of district Congress leaders visited the Pacchanady dumping yard on Wednesday, January 11.

On January 6, a massive fire broke out at Pacchanady dump yard and since then a thick cloud of smoke has engulfed across a few localities in the city which is posing danger to the residents who are living close to the Pacchanady area. Due to thick smoke, the people are experiencing foul smell of the Pacchanady waste.

On Wednesday, January 11 a district Congress delegation visited Pacchanady dumping yard.

Former MLA Mohiudeen Bava, former MLC Ivan D Souza, former Mayor Kavitha Sanil, Corporator Shashidhar Hegde, Lancelot Pinto, former Mayor Bhaskar Moily, Congress leaders Mohammed, Meena Tellis, Naveen D Souza, NSUI district president Suhan Alva and others were present.

Former MLA Mohiudeen Bava demanded the resignation of MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty who failed to take any kind of responsibility over Pacchanady incident. Even district in charge minister has not paid a visit to the dumpyard as yet, he said.

He also called for a meeting to take measures to control the fire and find alternative solutions to shift the residents living nearby.

Naveen D Souza said, "it is the failure of BJP administration in MCC which has caused the incident. They should have taken precautionary measures like waste segregation and drip irrigation.

The locals are already facing health issues due to thick smoke that has surrounded localities surrounding Pacchanady. They allege that people's representative have failed to visit the places which is severely affected due to the dumpyard and the fire incident. They also alleged that promises made by elected representatives was never fulfilled and no permanent solution had been found for such incidents.

I need to ask some questions 1) Which Government allowed use and throw plastics in plenty and helped the companies to generate in plenty. 2) why haven't the earlier Governments brought the concept of dumping without segregation 3) Why has the SWM not considered seriously by either of the government parties for more than 70 years of Independence.
