Udupi youth Rahul Shettigar tops civil judge exam, clears test in maiden attempt

Udupi, Jan 14: Rahul Shettigar secured the first rank in the civil judge examination in the state. He also cracked the exam in his first attempt.

Rahul hails from Parkala, Udupi. He is the son of Sarvodaya Shettigar, a retired district judge and Leelavathi who is a retired railway department employee.

Since the prelims exam notification, Rahul used to study for the exams for three hours. The prelims were held in July and the main exam in October. The interview was held in December.

Rahul has worked as a junior advocate under renowned advocate from Mangaluru P P Hegde since 2018. Rahul said, “It was a privilege to work under P P Hegde where he gave me several opportunities. The maximum credit of my success goes to senior lawyer P P Hegde.

“The minimum marks in prelims was 60. I secured 73. In the main exam, 50 marks was the minimum to be scored. There were four papers in the main exam. I never expected to secure the first rank. It came as a surprise,” he said.

P P Hegde said, “Rahul was working under me since 2018. He is brilliant, hardworking, and honest and knows the law. He has handled all sort of cases including civil, criminal, constitutional and serviceones.”
