Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (PS/SB)

Udupi, Jun 1: Due to artificial inundation witnessed in many parts of Udupi municipality limit last year, on Tuesday May 31 at a municipality session the municipality members urged to take prior action before the monsoon hits the region.

Drainage are filled with silt, the rain water may get clogged in rainy season as the work is going on near the National Highway. Silt removing work in drainage should be taken up immediately, they stressed.

Amritha Krishnamurthy proposed the issue during ‘zero’ hour. Mohan Upadya, Dr M R Pai, Shyamprasad Kudwa, Anandi, Panduranga Malpe, Jayananda, Dinakar Shetty Herga and Ravi Ameen among others also spoke. With the single JCB available at the Municipality, it is impossible to remove silt in all the wards. Last year many areas were submerged. Municipality used 4 JCBs and had tackled the mess. This time also fear of artificial rain continues. Thus an additional JCB should be procured, they demanded.

Speaking on the occasion, president Kiran Kumar said that almost 50% of silt removing work is completed in all those areas where last year flood had hit. Necessary actions will be taken, JCB will be arranged, he said.
