Haveri, Jan 19: Entering chief minister Basavaraj Bommai’s home district of Haveri on their Prajadhwani Yatra, Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar gave a clarion call to the people to oust the “corrupt and 40% commission government.”

Addressing a meeting in Haveri on Thursday, January 19, Congress opposition leader Siddaramaiah and KPCC chief Shivakumar lambasted the ruling BJP and said under the BJP rule in Delhi and in the State, unemployment had reached sky high while price rise and inflation have made life difficult for the poor and middle class sections.

The massive public support for the Congress party’s state-wide bus yatra in districts and places like Belagavi, Chikkodi, Bagalkot, Hospate, Vijayanagar, Koppal and Gadag and now in Bommai’s home district of Haveri, the Congress leaders said, was the sign of people’s resolve to oust the corrupt BJP. There is a big wave in favour of Congress party and anti-incumbency will lead to Bommai’s fall, they said.

Shivakumar said the Congress government had allocated Rs 5,000 crore for the development of Kalyana Karnataka region. The power generation in the state was increased from 10,000 mw to 21,000 mw during Congress rule and largest solar power park in 14,000 acres of land was created.

The BJP held a global investors meet by spending hundreds of crores and announced an investment mobilisation of Rs 10,000 crore, Shivakumar said and asked the government to indicate if any project has materialised in any district.

The KPCC chief said the Congress party is ready for a public debate on its two major pre-poll guarantees of Grihajyothi and Grihalakshmi of offering 200 units of power free to domestic households and Rs 2,000 a month to each housewife with Bommai or any BJP leader.

Siddaramaiah said the Congress party is committed to the welfare of the people and farmers and empowering women. “We don’t believe in empty slogans or announcing Stree Shakti schemes like the chief minister is promising when there are hardly two months. What prevented Bommai government from acting and doing what he is saying during the last three and half years, that too when it came to power through the backdoor,” he asked.

AICC general secretary, council opposition leader B K Hariprasad, former union minister K H Muniyappa, state Congress leaders H K Patil, Salim Ahmed, Allum Veerabhadrappa, D R Patil and others were present.
