Mangalore: Met Dept Warns of Heavy Rainfall in Next 48 Hours

Mangalore, Jun 2: The metereological department has warned of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over the coastal part of the state in the next 48 hours.

Rainfall in the next two days is expected to exceed 65 mm, said the department in a press release.

Strong offshore winds from westerly to north-westerly direction at a speed of 45-55 kmph is also likely off the coast in the next 24 hours. Fishermen have been warned not to venture far off into the sea.

Control rooms have been asked to stay on high alert, also, rescue and relief teams have been put on standby to meet with any emergency.

The monsoons made their arrival on Thursday June 2, with heavy showers lashing Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts.

Umbrellas are back in action, and so are potholes filled with ankle-deep water, especially in the city outskirts and in areas that do not have concrete roads.

Although the MCC has assured of being ready for monsoons, commuters in the city had quite a tough time negotiating with half-constructed roads in some parts of the city. The absence of well-defined footpaths in some of the main roads in the city made the situation even worse for the pedestrians.
