Mangaluru, Jan 21: The 'LCS Library Week' was celebrated from January 16 to 20 in Lourdes Central School, an occasion created with hope of reigniting the passion for reading in young minds.
Principal Fr Robert D’Souza along with vice principals Belita Mascarenhas and Anitha Thomas, librarians Nandini and Lavina Crasta inaugurated the event during the morning assembly on January 16.
This week was filled with numerous activities that helped the students realise the various joys of reading.
A variety of competitions were held too. Classes 1, 2 and 3 - Story Telling Competition, Classes 4 and 5 - Bookmark making, Class 6- Book cover making, Class 7 - Poster making, Class 8 – Book Review writing competition. The winning bookmarks, covers, and posters were put up for display in the school lobby.
On Friday, January 20, was the finale of the library week, which was a colourful and vibrant event. It started with the prayer and an adorable performance by the students of class 1 reciting a poem on Library. The story of Pied Piper was confidently and dramatically narrated by Joanna Anaya Kunder of Class 3. A dance drama was performed by the students of class 8 which was a visual treat. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions that took place during the week.
Vice principal Belita Mascarenhas addressed the students and encouraged them to read the library books and make full use of the school library’s resources and services.
Fr Robert D’Souza in his address thanked and congratulated the librarians for making the library week meaningful and for conducting various literary competitions. He further advised students to make good use of the library and enhance their knowledge. Kshiti G Shetty and Prachi of class 8 compared the programme.
All in all, LCS Library Week was a very successful event.
