Udupi, Jun 3: Edward Mendonca (55), a resident of Kudtamajal in Shirva gram panchayat, member of Shirva Rotary Club and president of Shirva Milk Producers' Co-operative Society, passed away in a ghastly road mishap that occurred at Padubidri near here on Thursday June 2 night.
The Innova car that Mendonca was travelling in from Mangalore to Shirva met with an accident when a Durgamba bus plying from Kundapur to Bangalore had a head-on collision with it.
The driver, Linga, died on the spot, while a critically injured Mendonca succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.
The locals struggled to move the injured out of the mangled remains of the car.
It is believed that due to incessant rains, the road was slippery and the car skidded before crashing onto the bus. A case has been registered in Padubidri police station.
Mendonca was the transport contractor for crude oil unit at Padoor. He is survived by his wife and a son. The funeral will be held at Our Lady of Health church, Shirva on Sunday June 5 at 4 pm.
The office bearers of Shirva Rotary Club and Milk Producers' Co-operative Society have expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.
