Mumbai: Konkani Playwright Joker Cascia Laid to Rest

Mumbai, Jun 6: Konkani fans from across the city gathered to pay their last respects to renowned Konkani playwright and writer Joachim D'Souza, or Joker Cascia here on Monday June 6.
The funeral cortege left his residence at 4.30 pm, with a huge crowd following, for St Antony's Church, Malwani. All Konkani enthusiasts across Mumbai were present, including Kutam Sampadak Henry D'Paula and Francis Fernandes Cascia of Mhataro Chorbela fame. The mass began at 5 pm.
Nizel, son of Joker Cascia thanked each and everybody for helping the family during difficult times and also for expressing their condolences. Even though Cascia was not in very good health for the last one year he was in good health for the last three or four months. On June 5 he suddenly collapsed at home around 8.25 pm and breathed his last.
Felix D'Souza Malwani conveyed the condolence message on behalf Konkani group Malwani. A big gathering from Malwani and Orlem were also present to pay their tributes to Cascia at St Anthony's Church.
Joker Cascia was buried at the same cemetary were Konkani great BAMS (Baptist Mendonca) was also cremated. Months mind mass of Joachim D'Souza will be July 5 (his 62nd birthday).

Mumbai, Jun 5: Noted Konkani writer and playwright, Joachim D'Souza, popularly known as Joker Cascia passed away on Sunday, June 5 at his Malad residence in Mumbai. He was undergoing treatment and was in the hospital for several weeks a few months ago. He was 62.
'Adek Laglya Bhag' `Zannam Soglo Ganv' and 'Fulak Soirik Zalya' are some of his plays out of the several plays he has penned. His play 'Fulak Soirik Zalya' had won prizes during Daiji Dubai Decennial drama competition two years ago at the Don Bosco Hall, Mangalore.
He was in the editorial board of Kuttam Konkani Weekly published from Mumbai.
He was a lyricist and also a singer. His song 'Jacintha' is very famous even to this day.
He is survived by his wife Nancy and two children Jenecia and Nizel.
Funeral cortege will leave residence 6/Sri Sai Cottage, Malvani Village, Near Hanman Mandir, Marve Road, Malad West to St Antony's Church, Marve Road, Malwani, on Monday, June 6 at 4:30 pm. Mass at 5:00 pm.
