Controversial BBC documentary on PM Modi screened in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jan 30 (IANS): The All-India Students Association (AISA) has screened the controversial BBC documentary in the city for the first time.

However, the ruling BJP has put the ball in the police's court saying that it is for them to act.

Joint Spokesperson for BJP Prakash. S, on Monday said, "It is for the police to act, if a banned documentary is screened." BJP insiders stated that it is an age of internet and the party is not really bothered about screening.

Reacting to the development, the Karnataka Education department maintained that since the screening did not take place in any of the schools or colleges, no action could be taken.

AISA had screened the documentary late on Saturday night at its office on Infantry Road. It had put out an invite on social media on January 25 and invited people to discuss the rise of communalism in India.

However, the invitation did not mention the name of the documentary. Association members claim that about 40 students had gathered to watch the documentary and take part in the discussion.

According to sources, the students came from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Azim Premji University, Christ College, the Saint Joseph's College and others. All India Central Council of Trade Union also watched the documentary.

The screening was smooth without any disturbance. The AISA members termed the ban on the documentary a "violation" of freedom and rights.

Police sources said that they have not received any complaint so far.

Readers, our nation has unequivocally overwhelmed UK economical clout by becoming the fifth largest economy powerhouse of the world... Apparently our colonialist cannot digest this harsh reality, so they use the BBC as a weapon to create communal hatred, demonising India's reputation... Frustrated netas are using this very same " Toolkit " to dislodge the present political dispensation... This is a last desperate hope, to some how checkmate the BJP in the 2024 general election !!!!

Modi is innocent beyond doubt so please file a law suit against BBC and rise the credibility of Modi and of your holy present political dispensation even higher instead of trying your best to hush up and banning like a guilty lest all is dispensed out into garbage. BTW, did US ban Modi from setting foot in the US soon after Gujrat massacre or somebody paid them to do so???.?. It’s up to people to decide whether during election time or otherwise to be aware of the facts than faking during election time.

The whole fiasco to me is very intriguing. Its very obvious , that its BJP backed and planned. The timing of the release . A BBC journalist very dubious who can be bought easily. Lots of dollars may have been given to him to release it. Then the drama of 'ban' unfolding. People eager to see .Religious passion escalating. Majority community in opposition parties will definitely hop parties , especially the rural ones and foot soldiers. Many are now seeing the 'aggressive ' Modi of 2002. Even some Youtubers from the 'minority' community are singing a different song now. If you see in the article above, BJP is not really bothered now to stop!!!.

I watched it this morning. Believe or not ...this Whoever "Normal" or 'Neutral 'citizen watch the movie , become a fan of.Modi . He literally trash the BBC journalist on her face by saying . 'Where did you pick this garbage' from? and ''You britisher , Do not preach us human rights"..Modi's leadership style and aggression which lack in today's most leader . In my view the '2002 Modi' is required to lead current India in its current situation . On the riots, It was started by some one and when retaliation took place, playing the victim card as usual. At the end any riots are not good as its loss of human life.

Those whose forefathers looted and invaded for a living making a documentary on our PM. One look at the Queens Crown is enough to substantiate, all studded with stolen ornaments from different countries. Robbed Saddam's golden piano also. Make a documentary on English theives... Useless fellows. If there is any civilization or richness still in UK, its because of us only. Bokwass Broadcasting Corporation.

Unfortunately, some don't want to know their Roots let alone of the Mundasu! If one doesn't know of their forefather's, their rich lineage then what can be done? Hope the point penetrates.

Truth is truth - even if it is minority of one. Those who believe need no explanation. Those who do not believe there is no explanation. As a rule man is a pool - when it is HOT he wants cold and when it is cold he wants HOT. Always wanting what is NOT.

This documentary should be made mandatory in school curriculums .It will make bjp Win 400+ seats. The joke is , No mention of sabarmati express nor mention of RSS workers burnt alive which led to Godhra ! No one even talks about when help was sought by Modi to the then home minister cheatambaram or Madhya Pradesh cm digvijay who both didn't send help and was left all alone ! But the SC took this into context while delivering the verdict! .

Not sure what these guys have gained or what their objective is. As it is BJP is on the back foot and vulnerable in the State. But screening such controversial stuff will and igniting religious passions will only work in favor of the party, when people vote based on religion.

Let BBC make documentary on the crimes commited in pre Independent india and throughout the world by the British. Lakhs of people lost their lives. People who cannot face Modi electorally want to rely on Bbc documentary. Sad reality.

Gujarat killings are the crimes of the same magnitude as the crime against Kashmiri Pandits.... Some screams suppressed during the atrocities will continue to haunt for a long time.... No palace built on corpses of victims can stand forever... One may suppress the media, gag the public outcry and let the perpetrators out on freedom.... But providence has its own timing for justice.... Justice will be served and will be served in life time of the culprits....
