Mangalore: Man Ends Life after Close Friend Drowns

Mangalore, Jun 6, DHNS: A youth met with a watery grave when he jumped to rescue two boys from drowning when their coracle capsized at a vented dam in Moodushedde here on Sunday. Seeing his death, his friend committed suicide after coming home at Pacchanady.

The youth, who got drowned while saving kids, is Vinod Raj (24), a resident of Pacchanady. The man, who committed suicide, is Dinesh alias Jaggu (30).

It was said that Vinod Raj and his friend Dinesh had been to the vented dam on Sunday afternoon.

Seeing the kids drown in the middle of the river, Raj jumped to rescue them. However, he got drowned. The boys were rescued by the locals who came in a traditional boat. Vinod Raj and Dinesh were close friends. It was said that 10 students from a Shaktinagara school had been to Moodushedde on Sunday.

Though eight students returned, two students, who did not know navigating, made an attempt to cross the river in a coracle.

    In India they never make people wear life jackets. They should be made compulsory.

    It looks crazy to end one'life for friend who drowned.However the the bond of true friendship made him to take extreme step!May Disnesh and Vinod's souls rest in peace.

    "A friend in need is a friend indeed" in death also.........
