MCC Qatar - Grand finale of Global Konkani Comedy, Baila Dance Challenge held

Doha, Feb 5: The most awaited MCC Qatar Global Konkani Comedy Challenge and the MCC Global Baila Dance Video Challenge concluded recently with grand success.

Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), in association with Mandd Sobhann, had organised both the programmes as part of the 30th anniversary celebration.

The grand finale programme was telecast on Daijiworld TV 24x7 and MCC Qatar YouTube channel in two episodes on January 27 and February 3.

Team ‘Comedy Company Mangalore’ were the winners of MCC Global Konkani Comedy Challenge. In the MCC Global Baila Dance Video Challenge Remona Evette was declared the Baila Queen and Sandeep Sequeira Baila King.

The chief guest for the grand finale was Walter Nandalike, founder and managing director of Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd, an entrepreneur, journalist, TV anchor and an actor.

MCC Global Baila Dance Video Challenge main sponsor Alfred Sequeira, MCC founder member Jerald D’Mello, Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario, president of Mandd Sobhann Louis Pinto, managing director of Daijiworld TV 24x7 Alexis Castelino were the other dignitaries present on the dais along with MCC president Naveen D'Souza.

MCC president Naveen addressed the gathering. In his talk, he summarised all activities and programmes organised by the club for the Mangalorean community in Qatar throughout the last 30 years. Monthi Fest, Dabazo, Cricket tournament, ladies throwball tournament, picnics, talent competitions, blood donation camps, Christmas party for children were the some of them to highlight.

Today MCC has reached from local to global levels. MCC also conducted the finale of Soad 3 International and Gulf Baila Naach.

Helping the poor and needy is the main objective of MCC. MCC supports the needy people in India as well as Mangalorean community in Qatar.

MCCQ Charitable Trust, a wing of MCC, has been helping the bright and deserving children in their education since 2018 from both Mangalore and Udupi Diocese. During the Covid-19 pandemic too MCC did not sit back.

MCC celebrated twice Monthi Festh virtually in 2020 and 2021. It was well appreciated not only in Qatar but also in India and around the world.

Inspired by this, MCC had organised the first virtual programme MCC Global Konkani Comedy Challenge and MCC Global Baila Dance Video Challenge.

Naveen, in his speech, thanked Mandd Sobhann for their support to organise these programs. He also thanked the advisors and sponsors for their generous contribution for the success of all the programmes. He ended by saying, "Let’s keep our Konkani language alive and hand this over to our children."

Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario, in his address to the gathering, thanked MCC for their partnership with Mandd Sobhann to conduct several good programs like Soad 3 International, Yehya Konkani Shikovnya, Gulf Baila Naach and now Global Konkani Comedy Challenge and Global Baila Dance Video Challenge.

Chief guest Walter nandalike then expressed his joy with MCC and Mandd Sobhann, for their efforts in keeping the Konkani heritage alive through the latest digital technology, even during the difficult times of pandemic. MCC took a challenge to go ahead with these two competitions though there were so many hurdles to conduct a programme virtually. He appreciated all the works done under the leadership of current president Naveen D'Souza and thanked him for associating with Daijiworld. He also appreciated MCC for their hospitality to all their guests during their visit to Qatar. He thanked MCC and Mandd Sobhann for keeping this relationship and keepingthe Konkani heritage alive. He wished MCC, a good future and assured Daijiworld’s wholehearted support for the future events.

All the judges and the anchors of both the programmes were honoured. Judges for the Global Konkani Comedy Challenge were Adolphus (Dolla) Cutinha, Denis Monteiro and Stany Alvares.

Global Konkani Comedy Challenge was anchored by Ronald Rodrigues. Global Baila Dance Video Challenge judges were Rahul Pinto, Avil D’Cruz, Pramod, Marula Gibson, Carol D’Souza and Neena Rodrigues. The programme was anchored by Hera Pinto and Adeline Pinto.

The main sponsor for the Global Konkani Comedy Challenge was Chethan Noronha and family, Doha. The main sponsor for Global Baila Dance Video Challenge was Alfred Sequeira, proprietor, Gulf International Enterprises, Qatar. They were presented with the memento as a token of appreciation.

The programme was recorded at Kalangann and video editing was done by Raveen Martis. Raveen and Mandd Sobann PRO Victor Mathias were honoured for their support for the smooth conduction of the programmes.

MCC also honored Daijiworld Media and Mandd Sobhann with mementos as a token of gratitude. MCC past president and advisor Sunil D’Silva proposed the vote of thanks. He thanked main sponsors, associate sponsors Jerald D’Mello - Space Trading and Transport Company, supporting sponsors Dr Ravi Shetty and family, Al Khair Trading and Aluminum Company, Redwood Engineering Trading & Contracting Import Co, Al Hadrem Trading & Import Co, Episode sponsors and all the sponsors for their never-ending support to hold various programmes.

One of the participant teams of the Global Konkani Comedy Challenge ‘The Expressions’ performed a small comedy skit, followed by a dance performance by Nach Sobhan team, choreographed by Rahul Pinto. A short standup comedy was presented by Ronald Rodrigues.

One of the judges of Global Baila Dance Video Challenge, Carol performed a solo dance. Following this two more dances were performed by Nach Sobhan team, choregraphed by Avil D’Cruz. All the finalists of the Global Baila Dance Video Challenge gave their final performance just before the final results were announced.

In all, 16 teams from various parts of the world participated in the Global Konkani Comedy Challenge. This programme was telecast in MCC Qatar YouTube Channel.

Global Baila Dance Video Challenge was held in three stages. In the preliminary round, there were 16 teams and in the semi-final round, 12 teams participated. Six of them were selected for the final round.

Arun Raj Rodrigues compered the program and president Naveen D'Souza presented the memento as a token of appreciation.

  • Best Video: Comedy Company Mangalore - Raveen Martis
  • Best Music: Comedy Company Mangalore - Raveen Martis
  • Best Actor Female: Sapna Saldanha
  • Best Actor Male: Nellu Permannur
