Red alert, high wave warning issued for Udupi district

Udupi, Jul 25: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Udupi, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds over the next two days.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rain with sustained wind speeds of 30-40 kmph is likely to occur at a few places, while extremely heavy rainfall with similar wind speeds is expected in the districts. Residents have been advised to remain alert and follow safety instructions issued by the district administration.

In addition, the coastal areas of Udupi district from Byndoor to Kaup have been placed under a high wave warning. Waves ranging between 3.7 to 3.8 meters are forecast from 5:30 PM on July 25 to 8:30 PM on July 27. The authorities have advised fishermen not to venture into the sea during this period. Nearshore recreational activities have been asked to be completely suspended due to the risk of erosion and wave surges along the coast.
