Chandigarh, Jun 8 (Dainik Bhaskar): A group of mechanical engineering students from Chitkara University have designed a single-seater car which reportedly gives a mileage of 500 kms per liter of petrol.

The car apparently weighs only 40 kgs and is a three-wheeler. Its height is 25 inches and is made of aluminum.

The students will present this car in the Eco Marathon Drive to be held in Malaysia next month. The drive is being organised by Shell, the global group of energy and petrochemicals companies.

The students said that they are confident that Shell will buy the car from them and will launch it under their banner after minor modifications.

Jaideep Singh and Digjot Singh, while giving a demonstration, said that the car has been designed keeping in mind the rising rates of petrol and the increasing pollution levels.

They said that all raw materials for the car have been imported and it has cost them Rs one lakh to build the car.

The young bunch of inventors revealed that they had taken a car to the Malaysian drive year last year as well, but that have a mileage of just 200 kms per liter of petrol.
