Kaup: Pillion rider dies after scooter hits barricade, another seriously injured

Daijiworld Media Network – Kaup (JD/MS)

Kaup, Feb 14: A young girl riding pillion was killed as the scooter on which she was travelling, collided with the barricade that was put across the highway repair work, which was left half way near Moodabettu on NH 66 at Katapadi. The rider of scooter was seriously injured in the accident that occurred late in the evening on Monday February 13.

The injured rider was admitted to Udupi private hospital by local public.

National highway repair work is in progress for the past one week at Katapadi. The work is done in a shoddy manner and no warning boards are put up properly. Due to this, many accidents are taking place. The concerned department is least bothered, says the public.

Nobody cares in this country. Everybody is busy with elections & transfers. In Democratic countries there is no value for anybody's life except the Politicians. Get rid of Democracy as soon as possible for the betterment of the country & the people. Implement Military rule in the country.

Kiran D souza Bangalore ,what you say is not completely correct.Dont ask for military dictation .It has its own problems.Let us live our democratic freedom .In military dictation you have no freedom to speak anything or have nothing to say.Of course what is happening at present by our lazy and no clue govt.might be better than military .you have to look only few countries .They too accumulate in their treasure and enjoy .Sad girl dies.Either Police see to the problems and warn the workers or make them pay for their not putting up the signs.Heartfelt sympathies to the family.May the soul rest in peace.

It's tragic to hear about the accident caused by unscientific barricades on the Udupi-Mangalore Highway. Proper guidelines must be implemented for the placement of barricades, as some are used for advertising and create disturbances for regular traffic. The barricades are placed in an unscientific manner, which poses a risk to traffic and creates disturbance. The responsibility for accidents caused by poorly placed barricades should be clearly defined, whether it's the Highway Authority which has planned for a double land road or the individuals/businesses/local authority who place the barricades are responsible for the accidents.

These so called speed barriers on the National Highway s in DK and Udupi district are unscientific and a cause for many deadly accidents, and also a nuisance for raid users and heavy vehicles. Speed tumblers are the solution, others states have put these in place to control over speeding of vehicles. Hope the RTO and Government take notice of the number of people dying because of these barriers.
