Mumbai, June 12 (IANS) A merchant ship being towed to Gujarat to be dismantled for scrap went adrift after breaking loose and is now near the Bandra shores, an official said Sunday.
Maritime agencies are engaged in efforts to control its drifting.
The unmanned vessel does not have any fuel on board, discounting the possibility of any pollution, the Directorate-General of Shipping (DGS) said.
Initially, the vessel was reported to be drifting towards the Bandra-Worli bay, posing a risk to the Bandra-Worli sealink. It stabilized around four kilometres off the Bandra shores.
MV Wisdom was being towed from Colombo to Alang in Gujarat where it was to be broken as scrap. The tug's ropes snapped Saturday due to heavy rains.
