Udupi: Litterateur, Yakshagana artiste Ambatanaya Mudradi passes away

Udupi, Feb 21: Yakshagana artiste, litterateur, recipient of Rajyotsava award Ambatanaya Mudradi passed away on the morning of Tuesday. He was 88.

Mudradi, a native of Karkala in the district has edited several books. He had created a niche in all fields like Haridasa, Jinadasa, Yesudasa, Yakshagana and Talamaddale arthadari. He has written several Yakshagana plays. He got retired after serving as a teacher.

In his last programme that was held in the city last week, Mudradi had interacted with the president of the first Yakshagana convention. During the programme Yakshagana Mathu Harikathe, Ondu Taulanika Adhyana book was released.

Mudradi was bestowed with Rajyotsava and Parti Subba awards. He also served as the president of Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishad.

Ambatanaya is survived by wife, three sons and five daughters. Ambatanaya Mudradi was born as Keshava Shettigar at Mudradi of Karkala on June 4, 1935. He studied only till eighth grade but did studies on his own interest and developed his personality.
