Moodbidri: Mortal remains of missing elderly person found on river bank

Moodbidri, Feb 23: The mortal remains of an elderly person, who went missing from the afternoon of Tuesday from Alangar, were found on the banks of river in Uppinangady on Wednesday morning.

Soorappa Poojary (74), a resident of Kaje, had gone out of the house saying that he was going to Alangar market. As he did not return till dark, family members searched for him and also inquired with relatives and friends. However, Soorappa could not be traced.

On Wednesday morning, when the CCTV of Alangar market shop was checked it came to light that Soorappa had gone to Uppinangady in a jeep. When a search was held at Uppinangady market and nearby vicinity, Soorappa’s mortal remains were found on the bank of the river in a sleeping position.

It is learnt that the deceased was suffering from some illness and depression for some days. It is suspected that he must have consumed poison. The mortal remains have been sent for post mortem.

Soorappa is survived by wife, son and three daughters.
