Udupi: Woman faces life threat from son; rescued by social worker

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Mar 19: Srimathi Shetty (65), a woman from Byndoor, had to flee her home due to her son's harassment, fearing for her life. She was later admitted to the Sakhi One Centre in Udupi with the help of social worker Vishu Shetty.

The woman's husband has passed away, and her son is responsible for taking care of the family. However, instead of fulfilling his duties, he has become a bully towards his mother. He not only subjected her to daily attacks but also attempted to kill her. Despite seeking help from the police, the mother did not receive any assistance.

After leaving her home, Srimathi Shetty sought the help of Vishu Shetty, who recognized the severity of the situation. Vishu Shetty promptly contacted the seniors' helpline and arranged for the woman to be admitted to the Sakhi Centre.

The woman was facing financial difficulties and had to rely on a monthly interest of Rs 4,000 from a bank deposit. Her son's relentless harassment was targeted towards extorting this money from her. Srimathi Shetty decided to seek society's help to lead a peaceful life, free from her abusive son.

It is a child's responsibility to take care of their parents, and legal action can be taken against those who neglect or mistreat their parents. Vishu Shetty demanded that the authorities concerned take this case seriously and provide justice to the aggrieved mother.

One who does not respect, or at least care, for one's own mother - be it a son or daughter - is better not to have been born.

There are many children, fotunate and earning well, who equate their monthly disbursement to their parents, which is normally out of love, affection, and gratitude, with the parents self earned property and lay full advance claim to that saying that they have been taking care of their parents expenses whilst at the same time flaunting flaunting outside that they are "helping their parents out of gratitude and love"! WHAT SORT OF LOVE THIS COULD BE WHEN THE CHILDREN ARE EYEING THE PROPERTY WITH THE ADVANCE CONDITION THAT IT IS IN "EXCHANGE FOR THEIR HELP?????

Mangaloreans have a bad rep for favoring sons over daughters, in all matters of life, education, even simple daily things like food. When I read such cases, I feel the parent is reaping their own sown culture, where they've failed as parents. Just because someone is old doesn't mean that person is paapa or right. Too many issues with these type of parents and I feel more such issues will crop up, in future, with such rabid patriarchy. Also, let's not forget, it's not your duty to procreate, if you cannot raise a child well, please don't have one.

Karen I agree with your views! Unless otherwise the daughter has not cheated her parents or gone against their well wishes and hurt them, the parents should never be partial against the daughter in any respect including distribution of property!

Rudolph Rodrigues Mumbai ,since our ancestors it is being followed that a outgoing daughter will not be able to take care of parents ,so a son mostly remains in house and take care.Daughter had no right in parents assets since she got as dowry.Present daughter too has a right in parents assets.Even daughters fight for it .Son mostly take care of parents. But now sons have to work and cant take care as thy want .or dot want? Here son should be happy to have a mother with him but shouldnt pesture her of her small amount in Bank but work hard and live with her happily. He must be thinking she has money let her give him if she wants to be lookafter. He should think it will come back to him when he will be asked by his children same way .Sure if she has a daughter she can look after her when she can.Not all can do due to their work out of house and children.Mother too can help with giving small amount to son keeping some to personal use.Son s Voilant ways are no go.He should learn it

Rudolf, thank you for your opinion! If obedience is the key to parental happiness, then before even getting pregnant, parents should be allowed to choose the soul and the type of person who will be born to them. If God has not given them that, then it means, the person who wishes to have a child knows that the quality of parenting will ensure the kind of person. Parenting is important, not genetics. If one is not mentally and emotionally capable of handling parenting, please refrain from biology. We are humans not animals!!! Also, parents are abandoning their daughter before birth, female foeticide, or giving birth to daughters and treating them like second class citizens, in favor of male sons, what is the wrong done by these girls? Then, of course, there are people who say things like the daughter should not have hurt the parents etc. What sort of mindset is this?

I have seen abusive children towards their parents have endured miserable conditions in their life. I know one instance of a son slapping his mother, the son became a chronic alcoholic and died a miserable death.

These types of inhumane incidents are becoming very frequent nowadays; I have personally observed own children threatening their parents to "transfer all the property in their names" or face total rejection, both economically and otherwise; can anyone believe it; and these are the people who always talk about some "imaginary God and prayers!!
