Udupi, Mar 29: A woman lost Rs 1,97,999 in an online fraud here.

Jyothi (32), a resident of Udupi was looking for a face cream to buy online when she came across Cosderma-App and a mobile phone number against it. The person who received the mobile phone call made by her asked her to get her name registered under paytid.co.in.

An unidentified person called her mobile number on March 22, posed that he belonged to the company and said that the registration done by her earlier was not right. He sent another link and asked her to update her details in it. The victim did likewise.

However, to her shock, Rs 99,999 were transferred on March 24, Rs 90,000 and Rs 8,000 on March 25 from her Karnataka bank, Saligrama branch. The stranger had posed that he is from Cosderma company and will send her the face cream, obtained her details online and transferred Rs 1,97,999 from her bank account. She was cheated without either sending the cream or returning the amount.

A police complaint is registered at CEN police station in this connection.
