Body of Teenage Boy Recovered from Versova Beach

Mumbai, Jun 26: The body of the teenage boy who drowned at the Juhu beach on Friday June 24 has been found. The boy was washed away while attempting to fulfil a task set by by his friend to swim to the ship MV Wisdom.

The boy, Vivek Pal, aged 15, was a class 9 student who had skipped school on the day of the tragedy. He along with his three friends went to Juhu beach and Vivek was challenged by his friends to touch the rope of MV Wisdom. He achieved the feat, but was swept away by strong currents while on his way back.

The ship's crew and a local lifeguard tried to save him, but Vivek disappeared among the waves. His friends fled the scene and did not speak about the incident to anyone. Sources said the boy's family came to know about his drowning only after watching the news on television.

On Saturday June 25 morning, the fire brigade found Vivek's body near Versova beach with the help of three fishermen.

The body has been handed over to the family, after a postmortem at Cooper Hospital.
