UAE: Fire Breaks out at Western Oil Refinery

Abu Dhabi, Jun 27 (The National): A fire broke out at the western Umm al Nar oil refinery yesterday morning.

Specialists from Abu Dhabi Police and Civil Defence helped the refinery's firemen to extinguish the fire, which broke out in boiler section number eight shortly before 11am. No one was injured.

"The flames, which began at the boiler, reached the boiler's fuel tanks but firefighters' efforts kept the situation from becoming more serious," said Lt Col Sultan Al Hosany, the head of the police's technical rescue and quick intervention section.

It took 45 minutes to extinguish the flames and a further hour to cool the boiler.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
