Udupi: World Health Day Observed at Kasturba Hospital Manipal

Udupi, Apr 6: “Every year April 7 is celebrated as World Health Day across the world. Its main objective is to create awareness among the general public about good health. Earlier there was a need to create awareness among people about infectious diseases and communicable diseases but now there is a need to create more on prevention of non-communicable and lifestyle diseases, diabetes, heart disease, kidney, etc. Kasturba Hospital Manipal has always been at the forefront in such work," said, Dr Nagaratna, Udupi District Surveillance Officer today. She was speaking while unveiling the health awareness sculpture created by the team of the Community Medicine Department at Kasturba Hospital Manipal on Thursday, April 6.

The theme of the year is 'Health to All', this year World Health Organization is celebrating its 75th anniversary under the theme of 75 Years for improving public health. As part of this, a free health check-up camp was organized at Kasturba Hospital Manipal, and street plays were played in the morning to create health awareness in the public. Also, a slogan writing competition on health awareness was organized for the employees of the hospital.

Dr Padmaraj Hegde Dean, KMC, Dr Avinash Shetty, Manipal, medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital Manipal, Dr Shiran Shetty, deputy mdical sperintendent, Dr Ashwini Kumar, professor and head of department of Community Medicine, Dr Suba Sooriya, head of Nursing Services and Administrative team were present. More than 1000 people benefited from free health check programme.
