Mangaluru, Apr 8: Counting of votes of all the eight legislative assembly constituencies of Dakshina Kannada district will be held at NITK campus at Surathkal.
Polling will be held on May 10 and results will be declared on May 13. After searching for a suitable place, the district administration has finalized NITK campus for counting of votes.
Generally huge crowds will gather outside the vote counting centre. If this is done inside the city, it causes huge traffic jam. So the counting of votes was done at NITK during the last Lok Sabha elections.
Counting of votes of 2018 legislative elections was held at Mahatma Gandhi composite PU college at Bondel, which had caused huge traffic issues. In 2014, Lok Sabha elections counting was done at Bondel and 2009 at Canara College. The counting of votes of local body elections was held at Karnataka Polytechnic.
According to the district administration, whether it is Rosario high school or Canara College inside the city, traffic will get congested if the counting of votes is done as they are in the heart of the city. Though NITK is a bit far, it has got ample space so the traffic will not get affected.
Ravikumar M R, DC of Dakshina Kannada, said, “The counting of votes of 1860 polling booths of eight legislative assembly constituencies of Dakshina Kannada will be held on May 13 at NITK, Surathkal. After polling on May 10, all the EVMs will be kept in the strong rooms of NITK with heavy security.”
