Udupi, April 20: The BJP candidate for Udupi Assembly constituency Yashpal Suvarna filed his nomination papers at Udupi taluk office on Thursday, April 20.
A mass rally was taken out by foot from Udupi district BJP office to Udupi taluk office earlier. More than 10,000 party workers holding saffron flags amidst the sound of the drums and slogan shouting walked on the main roads of Udupi and expressed their support to Yashpal Suvarna.
Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, former MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, Kundapura BJP candidate Kiran Kumar Kodgi, minister Sunil Kumar and other leaders were present.
Speaking to news persons after filing the nomination, Yashpal Suvarna said that he has the intention of making Udupi a model constituency. “Raghupathi Bhat has already conducted development works. Government medical college, drinking water round the clock, education and strengthening the fisheries sector are my priorities. I thank all the party activists for taking part in the rally. BJP will win all the five seats in Udupi,” he said.
A meeting of activists was held near the BJP Kadiyali office before filing the nomination.
Addressing the party workers, former minister Pramod Madhwaraj said that he has the record of winning with the highest margin. “But I am confident that Yashpal Suvarna will win with a margin of more than 60,000 votes. It will be a historic win,” he said.
MLA Raghupathi Bhat said that Yashpal is a sincere party worker who works in all the elections. “He has taken over the fisheries federation that was incurring loss towards profit. We are confident that Yashpal will win with a huge margin but we should not be overconfident,” he said.
MLA Raghupathi Bhat and candidate Yashpal were felicitated in the programme. Former president of the Coastal Development Authority Mattar Rathnaker Hegde, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi in-charge Uday Kumar Shetty, election in-charge Ganesh Hosapete, national OBC president L G Masani, rural BJP president Veena Naik, Udupi city BJP president Mahesh Takur, BJP spokesperson Raghavendra Kini, Kaup candidate Suresh Shetty Gurme and others were present.
