Udupi: DC directs voters from other constituencies to leave district ahead of polling

Udupi, May 5: As elections will be held across the state on May 10, district deputy commissioner Kurma Rao M has directed political campaigners, party workers, activists, rally organisers and others whose names do not figure in the voters list of the local Vidhana Sabha limits to leave the constituency before 6 pm on May 8.

Presiding over a meeting held at his office here on Friday, May 5, he said,“As elections on May 10 should be free, fair and peaceful, there is no permission for public campaigns 48 hours prior to the conclusion of elections. Those who are not the voters in the Vidhana Sabha limits should leave the constituency before the scheduled time.” 

“Those who have come from outside the constituency for campaigning should also leave before the scheduled time. They should not be accommodated in guest houses or wedding halls. Information about their unauthorized stay should be informed to the district administration or the district police,” he said.

“If advertisements are to be published in print media 48 hours before the expiry of duration of voting, the concerned candidate or the party should mandatorily obtain approval from the concerned committee,” the deputy commissioner said.

“Sale and supply of liquor is banned in the district from 5 pm on May 8 till midnight on May 10 and from midnight on May 12 till midnight on May 13,” he said.

The model code of conduct district nodal officer and district panchayat chief executive Prasanna H, additional DC Veena, IAS officer under training Yathish, district spokesperson Manjunath B and various association office-bearers were present.
