Mangaluru: Footpath interlock damaged within four months of completion of work

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, May 6: The interlock that was installed on the footpath of Padavinangady is damaged within four months of completion of work. The point to be noted is that this ward belongs to mayor Jayanand Anchan.

Underground drainage and footpath was constructed on both sides of the road that leads to the international airport. Only few interlocks are remaining and they are definitely going to come off during the monsoon season according to the public.

Local resident Kishore said, “Most of the interlocks installed on the footpaths are broken though there are very few pedestrians who walk on them. They have become brittle due to extreme heat. People are scared to walk on footpath also as they are suspicious about the quality of slab that is fixed for the underground drainage.”

Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) engineers are supposed to go the site and check the quality of work once it is finished and then pass the bill of the contractor. But most of the MCC engineers do not check the actual work and pass the bill sitting in the office. Crores of rupees of taxpayers’ money is getting wasted in this manner.

Local resident Pramod says, “Corporator of the ward should check the quality of work that is going on in his or her ward. It seems that this work is done only for the purpose of billing. Otherwise the interlocks would not have broken so early.”

Channabasappa, MCC commissioner said, “If the interlocks are broken within few months of laying them, definitely the quality of work that is done is substandard. Action will be taken against the contractor.”

I think the contractors have purchased 2nd hand damaged tiles, so they make money by laying again. They will logged the complaint with tiles manufacturing companies.

Nex could be our 40 % government to collapse because the condition of present BJP has been totally in bad shape. High time demolish and build new one with the support of like minded people. Total country resources are utilized for useless peojects and 40" for pwesonal growth of ministers.

This is not the only place were the new smart city footpaths are damaged, there are many more such places in Mangalore. Since the enginers, corporators are all hand in glove with the contractor's. The above are all good to business establishments to use the footpath for parking of customers vehicles. Above all the police are least bothered if vehicles are parked on footpath front of business establishments.

Action will be taken against the contractor.” Why contractor?????? Action should be taken who took 40% & made gulunk into his stomach. Action should be taken on the MCC Engineer who didnt check the quality of the work. Action should be taken who pased the bill without checking . If contractor has to give 40% & if if he has no profit 100% sure he will put low quality tiles . He also has tp pay his laborer's /Materials

@Praveen, Mangalore, We have seen footpaths withstand the test of time even with vehicles moving over it. If vehicles moved over it then the interlock brick should still be lying there. Here if you see the photo carefully it is not 'interlock bricks'. It is interlock tile which is barely 1 inch thick which is not suited for footpaths. This footpath is the epitome of BJ partys double engine failure. Beeja party has done Masters in Entire ghotala science. This foothpath should be in the 'hall of shame'

People should change their mentality. If they don't question then the day is near these BJP goons will do whatever they want. Beware of these rascals.
