New Delhi, Jul 10: Solicitor general of India Gopal Subramanium's offer to resign in connection with Kapil Sibal's choice of advocate has not been accepted by the law minister Veerappa Moily.

According to the sources telecom minister Subrahmanium decided to resign following Kapil Sibal's pressure to have private lawyer Rohington Nariman to represent the government in the court on Monday July 11 on the allegations that Sibal has backed Reliance Communication.

Besides this the perception that Subrahmanium was unable to defend centre efficiently in the recent times was humiliating, which made him feel that he was no more aspired to be legal officer for the government.

He was fighting for the government when the Supreme Court (SC) issued notice to the PM's office in regard with the 2G scam.

The caption seems to have got it entirely wrong. SG is not the PM of India or the Home Minister or even the Textiles Minister. He is just an law officer and his resignation will never put UPA II or for that matter any government in the doldrums!!
