Tokyo, July 10 (IANS) High levels of radioactivity have been found in beef from Japan's Fukushima prefecture, whose nuclear plant was seriously damaged by a magnitude-9 earthquake in March, a media report said Sunday.
Beef samples taken from a farm in Minamisoma city on the outskirts of the nuclear plant exceeded more than three times the legal limit, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
This is the first time high levels of radioactivity have been found in meat. In previous tests, radioactivity was found in vegetables, fish and water in the area affected by the quake.
More than 15,000 people have died in the disaster that struck the country March 11, while around 8,000 are still missing.
