Udupi, May 13: Though the BJP denied ticket to four sitting MLAs of the district and brought in four new faces, voters of the district supported them and made them victorious. All five BJP candidates of Udupi district recorded victory over their rival Congress candidates.

Except Sunil Kumar of Karkala, the BJP had given ticket to new faces in all other four constituencies of Kaup, Byndoor, Kundapur and Udupi.

In Karkala, sitting MLA Sunil Kumar of the BJP had a close victory over Muniyalu Udaya Kumar Shetty of Congress. In Udupi constituency Yashpal Suvarna won with comfortable margin over Prasad Raj Kanchan of Congress. In Kaup constituency, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake tasted defeat once again. His rival Gurme Suresh Shetty of the BJP, who was given ticket for the first time won. In Kundapur, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, disciple of Halady Srinivasa Shetty, won with huge margin over Dinesh Hegde Molahalli. In Byndoor, in a tough constest, Gururaj Gantihole of the BJP won the contest in spite of unhappiness expressed by sitting MLA Sukumar Shetty. Gopal Poojary of Congress was defeated once again by BJP candidate.

Sunil Kumar, BJP candidate from Karkala said, “I am thankful to the people of Karkala for having chosen me as their MLA for the fourth time. For the past two to three months, a Congress B team had found success in spreading false propaganda about me. However, the voters of the constituency have made me victorious as they have seen the development.

“I will upkeep the faith and belief the people of my constituency have shown in me. All five MLAs of our district will work unitedly for the progress of the district.

“People must have believed the guarantee card of the Congress. We will be alert and see how the Congress is going to implement the same. Campaigning against me had crossed limits. Even I was insulted personally. However, the people of Karkala blessed me. We did not consider the contest by Pramod Muthalik seriously. We do not yet know how much money he has taken from the Congress,” he said.
