Mangaluru, May 14: A fire mishap in the Karavali sports complex shop near Suratkal on Saturday afternoon resulted in the destruction of goods worth lakhs of rupees.

The owner of a neighboring shop noticed the fire and promptly closed his own shop before alerting the fire service personnel. Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and managed to bring the fire under control. The MRPL fire service team also provided assistance and took part in the rescue operation. Unfortunately, by the time the fire engines arrived and the firefighting operation commenced, a significant portion of the goods had already been engulfed by the flames.

The owner of the sports shop has filed a complaint regarding the incident.

When they are running such big businesses, why they do not install, top quality, protective safety switches in the main line, which trip instantly in case of a short circuit and also smoke/fire alarms? This is all the more necessary as the power utility company supplying power uses all third-grade equipment including transformers leading to high voltage fluctuations, which cause such accidents; I have noticed LED bulbs exploding due to very high voltage surge! Probably, this is the only Smart City where all costly equipments compulsorily need voltage stabilizers. BTW, there have been reportedly numerous fire accidents during this time, which is not acceptable for a Smart City like Mangalore!! Hope these affected guys are having natural calamity insurance?
