Siddaramaiah gets MLA backing, Shivakumar pins hopes on Sonia Gandhi

Bengaluru, May 16 (IANS): As the race for the next Karnataka Chief Minister intensifies, sources in the Congress party confirmed that majority of MLAs have expressed their willingness for senior leader Siddaramaiah to take up the top post.

According to the sources, Siddaramaiah has the backing of more than 80 MLAs.

The party high command, which had clarified from the beginning of making the candiddate who had the support of MLAs as the Chief Minister, is now in a difficult position as Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar is also vouching for the post.

Shivakumar, who was supposed to meet Sonia Gandhi on Monday, had canceled his meeting citing ill health.

He will reach Delhi on Tuesday and attend a high level meeting to decide on the Chief Ministerial candidate.

Shivakumar had turned emotional and was in tears after Congress achieved remarkable victory in the May 10 Assembly polls.

He maintained that he had kept the word given to Sonia Gandhi.

Shivakumar is also addressing Sonia Gandhi as 'taayi' and 'amma' (mother).

He said he had dedicated 135 MLAs to the Congress and it is now up to the party to take a call.

Usually, the President of Congress party becomes the Chief Minister without hassles.

Meanwhile, D.K. Suresh, an MP from Bengaluru Rural and also Shivakumar's brother, met AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and urged that his brother should become the Chief Minister.

Sources explained that an announcement would be made by the end of Tuesday and the new Chief Minister will take charge by Wednesday or Thursday.

Please guys . Firstly, Congratulations on your long awaited victory. Whatever it is. Do not overlook the fact the Waqf Board and its Chief Mr. Shafi Sad. For those who are not aware. The Muslim community was a major factor that helped Congress register its thumping majority in at least 72 constituencies and now is the time for the Congress party to return. The Congress infact won because of the Muslims, The DJS vote percentage reflects this afact . Now is time that we get something in return .As agreed earlier, with this duo, a Muslim Deputy CM and five ministers with good portfolios to be appointed in the Karnataka Cabinet. This is to improve the welfare of minorities accross the state.

I agree with you, its high time . Many of us are still fighting court cases for the CAA protests for the properties attached!. It was for a all minority protest called by Mr, Ivan and Mr, Ramanata Rai. Mind you it was not an online protest with fake ids like one faction did in the comfort of their homes!

As if you people had been voting for bjp in the past that this time your NEW ADDITIONAL votes made congress to win, congress won big because of the following reasons. 1) lingayat votes didn't get one sided towards bjp , it got divided towards congress. 2) vokaligas left jds and supported congress unitedly in the Mysore belt for DKS. 3) kuruba community votes got united for siddu and didn't go towards bjp and jds. 4) In North Karnataka side people gave a chance to congress for free schemes. 5) bjp wrong analysis while giving tickets created issues within the party and its workers. Only little advantage what Muslims gave was, In jds belt muslim voted United towards congress instead of splitting up thier votes to congress and jds THAT'S IT!!

Siddus victory was on compassion grounds . Contesting from a safe Muslim constituency that belonged to his son. He is a leader who has no standing in his own backyard Chamundeshwari and even Badami. His plea or request should not be entertained. Congress should also keep the promise to Zameer Ahmed and on the DCM and the 5 portfolios. The WAQF board members played a major role for the congress to win in 72 constituencies.

Both should credit for such a big win.Even the predition went wrong. No survey could give exact numbers or may be more or less numbers. But the point here is give them half half terms so that there is no difference between them and justice is done to both of them.
