New Delhi, Jul 13 (IANS): Indian-owned English Premier League (EPL) team Blackburn Rovers will take on Pune FC in a much awaited exhibition encounter July 22.
The match will played at the Pune FC home ground Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi-Mhalunge. Rovers is owned by Pune-based Venky's poultry firm.
Pune FC will be the first Indian club to face an EPL team.
"The game is a landmark encounter for Indian football fans and we are happy to be part of this treat," said Pune FC Director Nandan Piramal.
"We are excited and honored to be the first team from India to play an EPL team that revolves around inscribing history. It provides a golden opportunity for fans to witness once in a life time event."
The Lancashire-based side's trip will be the first on their twin nation visit to Asia. Following the friendly against Pune FC, Steve Kean's squad will proceed fo the EPL's Asian Trophy in Hong Kong, along with Aston Villa and Chelsea.
Blackburn are currently one of only four clubs to have won the Premier League, along with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
