Bantwal: ‘Nanna Jeevana Nanna Swachh Nagara’ campaign set in motion

Bantwal, May 20: The central ministry of housing and urban affairs has begun a campaign under Swatcha Bharath Mission Nagara 2. ‘Nanna Jeevana Nanna Swachh Nagara’ campaign under it was set in motion at B C Road bus stand on Saturday May 20.

Mangaluru unit project director Abid Gadyal set the programme in motion. He said that the campaign is meant to protect the environment by recycling the products that can be reused and reduce their manufacture.

“The municipal council has intended in order to protect the environment to receive at dry waste collection centers items that can be reused or recycled. The centers will be named as reduce, reuse and recycle centers (RRR centers). Such items will be received till June 5.

The centers are located at Baddakatte Vaikunta Baliga commercial complex, near B C Road bus stand and near Panemangalore market.

People can hand over toys, plastic, used clothes, newspapers, old books and electronics that can be recycled and used,” he said.

Gold jeweler Sunil Acharya handed over reusable items. Carmel Convent college students helped in the campaign.

Municipal council member A Govinda Prabhu, chief executive Lena Britto, Jaycee Bantwal president Rajendra K, Lions club president Umesh Acharya, jeweler Sunil K, Carmel Convent nun Sr Latha, Damodar Sanchayagiri, engineer Dominic D’ Mello, Jaycee members Kishore Acharya, Umesh Poojary, health inspector Rathna Prasad and others were present.
