Kundapur: MLA Kodgi holds meeting with town municipality officers

Kundapur, Jun 3: “There should be no negligence in the matter of drinking water supply. All should work keeping in mind their responsibilities. Already public is complaining that salt water is supplied under the limits of town municipality. Officials did not have information on this matter? Now how the issue is resolved?” question MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi.

Kodgi held meeting with town municipality officials. Replying to the question of MLA, Jalasiri project officer said, “The issue occurred as the gate of salt water retaining wall was opened suddenly. No one informed the department when the gate was opened. That is why the issue got created. We have immediately verified and got the water tested and the issue is resolved now.”

Manjunatha, chief officer of Municipality said, “Jalasiri project, which has taken the responsibility of supplying drinking water 24x7 under the limits of Kundapur municipality is not functioning properly. When the town municipality handed over the project there were 3300 pipe connections. Agreement was done to raise it to 6650. Now the connections have reached only 4200 mark. The target is still not reached. Municipality is suffering losses due to this. Public is expressing unhappiness on the company that has taken the contract.”

MLA Kodgi said, “Once the contacts is signed, the agreement needs to be followed. Within eight years all connections and maintenance needs to be done as per the agreement. There is no chance of getting away from the agreed responsibilities. If new decisions need to be taken, new administrative committee has to take over the municipality. Once the specific time period of the president and vice president decided by the government is over, suitable decision needs to be taken.”

Administrative officer of town municipality and assistant commissioner of Kundapur sub division Rashmi said, “Jalasiri contract company and town municipality have to work in coordination. A separate meeting will be held and suitable decision will be taken.”

Chief officer of town municipality said, “There are 23 wards in the town municipality. In total 108 positions are there and only 46 people are working now. 62 posts are vacant. 14 people are working on contract basis.

“For STP plant construction for drainage system of the town, a place is identified near Huncharabettu. However, public is opposing the construction. Rs two crore is given to the land but the people are objecting for the project. Even if we go for other place, we need lots of time to get clearance from pollution control board.”

MLA Kodgi asked the chief officer about the action taken on the auto rickshaw stand in Kundapur, demand for which has come from public.

MLA also said that solution needs to be worked out for vehicle parking issue under the limits of town municipality. MLA also held discussion on the process of handing over Nehru Maidan to town municipality.

Administrative officer of town municipality and AC Rashmi and officials of the municipality were present.
