Mangaluru, Jun 5: The district BJP staged protest against the state Congress government here at the Clock Tower on Monday June 5, over the hike in electricity tariff. The protest is being held across the state as the decision to hike the power tariff came as a shock for consumers as it was done after the state government announced 200 units of free electricity for households.

Addressing the protestors, MLA Vedavyas Kamath said, “The Congress sought votes announcing 200 units of free electricity to people of Karnataka. Now the government have shocked the consumers with increase in power tariff by 70 paise per unit. The Congress had announced that they will implement the guarantee within 24 hours and now they have applied conditions as well. They have cheated the people with false promises and the public are regretting voting for the Congress. There are over 2 crore women in the state. I dare the Congress to give Rs 2000 to every woman here. The Congress need to be ashamed to hike the power tariff. Also, funds from the state government have been stopped for the development works.”

MUDA Chairman Ravi Shankar Mijar, deputy mayor Poornima, former mayor Premananda Shetty, BJP leaders Sathish Kumpala, corporator Shakeela Kava and others were present.

Totally agree. Price hike is result of demand supply gap. Here Congress has created this gap artificially to get back to power. When production is not affected, distribution is not affected, why price rise? Pay through other means without making communism of equal distribution of wealth the means behind your agenda. We are a democracy. This method behind madness should be fought tooth and nail. I do not want to spend my precious earnings because of some stupid promise that Siddu, DKShi and Kharge made which did not make economic sense in the first place.
